Community Cycling/Walking Survey

We do some of our own traffic surveys for two main reasons: firstly, as an independent check on the official statistics; secondly, because the official statistics are only published infrequently (annually in most cases) and many months after they're collected, so they're a pretty slow way to spot changes.

Please use this form to send us the results of your traffic surveys. To do a traffic survey, pick a location and stand there for a period of time (ideally 15, 20, 30 or 60 minutes) and count how many walkers and cyclists pass there during a period of time.

We are particularly interested in counts from the following locations because we have past counts from them, including the disused automatic counters:

  • King's Lynn:
    • National Cycle Route 1 Harding's Way at the River Nar sluice (next to the Environment Agency building)
    • National Cycle Route 1 Sandringham Railway Path just south of Gaywood Road (next to the grey automatic counter cabinet)
    • National Cycle Route 1 Sandringham Railway Path just south of the Spenser Road crossing
    • Bridge Way Cycleway between Rollesby Road and the Iron Bridge (next to the grey automatic counter cabinet)
    • Extons Place Cycleway between Extons Place and Rollesby Road (next to the grey automatic counter cabinet)
    • Bawsey Drain Path next to the exit nearest Home Bargains (next to the grey automatic counter cabinet)
    • Edward Benefer Way outside Bespak (next to the grey automatic counter cabinet)
    • Hardwick Roundabout A10 just at the south end of the layby (next to the grey automatic counter cabinet)
    • West Lynn Cycleway just north of East Coast Storage where it uses the line of the old road (next to the grey automatic counter cabinet)
  • Downham Market:
    • National Cycle Route 11 just north of Wesley Close next to the school (next to the grey automatic counter cabinet)
    • National Cycle Route 11 London Road outside the Live and Let Live PH between the miniroundabout and Ryston End
    • Any other points you feel may be useful!
  • Hunstanton and other places:
    • We currently have no high-resolution old data for other places, so please suggest the best points and we will add them here! If you know about old data, please let us know, especially if you know how to get a copy.
