Mercian and Roberts touring bikes for sale

ROBERTS 22” AUDAX/TOURING BIKE

This is described as a ‘Custom Audax Special Compact’ cycle and was built for me by master builder Chas Roberts. I’m 5’10” and of normal build, so assume it’s 22” or 56cm. I paid £1547 for the bikein 2002. In 2017 the frame alone cost £1500.
The frame is lugless and made of Columbus Nivacrom tubing, so well made that you won’t see any evidence of welding. The paint finish on the top tube has been scraped by some idiot with a knife, but the damage is only cosmetic. The forks are carbon.
The 700c front wheel is hand-built by Spa Cycles and has a hub dynamo. The 700c rear wheel was built by Andy Panks in Norwich. Tyres are by Schwalbe.
The chainset is a 9 speed Campagnolo Racing Triple 48/38/28, the combined gear and brake levers and front mech are Campagnolo Centaur, the rear mech is Campagnolo Veloce. The cassette block is 13-28. Rim brakes are Shimano dual pivot RX100, bars are Deda, the saddle is Selle Italia Turbo and pedals are Crank Bros Candy . A Tubus rear rack is fitted. The dynamo powers both front and rear lights.
A lovely bike. Reason for sale: I’m 83, I used to be a regular and active member of Diss and Norwich CTCs and have to accept now that I need the assistance afforded by an e.bike.
