May Bulletin

Elections! There are no county council votes in Norfolk this year because the councils is

about to be replaced with new ones, but if you have town or parish elections or you live in Cambridgeshire or Lincolnshire, please vote on 1st May for a cycling-friendly mayor and
any councillors you can.

Temporary Route Closure: The GEAR run is on Sunday 4th May so NCN Route 1 will be closed

in King's Lynn from the cut bridge to the town centre and through The Walks from 8am to

1pm. The B1144 (Vancouver/Tennyson) is the main diversion for cars so will probably be very

busy. A possible diversion heading north is not to turn off by the power station but follow

the old road past the speedway arena to the A47 junction, then follow the cycleway beside

the A148 Nar-Ouse Way, turn right at the Southgate roundabout onto the Hardwick Road

cycleway and follow signs left for Fairstead and then Station to rejoin NCN 1. Heading south,

follow signs for Fairstead, then Hardwick Ind Est, then Town Centre and turn left at

Southgates roundabout to take the A148 cycleway to the road past Norfolk Arena.

There is no mass-start ride from Cambridge city centre this year because the council has let         the roads on the all-ages route get into too poor condition, but we hope to be joining lots of other people riding there.  We may vary the route a little to try for wider paths, avoid some of the bumpiest roads and try a different cycle park.  (Suggested 10 mile route https://cycle.travel/map/journey/744614 with return to be decided on the day depending on weather and bikes, such as a similar route back, Route 51 to Cambridge, Route 11 to Ely, or the Great Drove and Shaw's Drove to Ely.)
