April/May Bulletin

Hi Bugsters,

Our latest train assisted ride to Ely and bike to King’s Lynn via Chatteris and March was a great success.  The initial section heading west into a strong south westerly wind was hard work, but Oh The Bliss of a strong tail wind for the better part of our journey.  Rob joined us at St Germans bridge for the remainder of the ride  -  sorry I had to dash off so quickly Rob, we don’t often get the opportunity to ride with you, your shift work and family having to take priority.   Respect to Helen on her new steed,  seventy two miles clocked up was a good rehearsal for the ninety three coming up on the Count The Counties sportive.  On Sunday 19 April 2015 the “Count the Counties” Sportive will be starting from Lynnsport, offering a 30, 55 or 92 mile option. Entry fees scaled according to distance.  Details on: www.cyclesportivesuk.co.uk

Helen and Andrew have organised a BUG’s Wonderful Wellington Wheeling Weekend Workout to raise money for the RNLI.  You are invited to ride in wellies from Lynnsport to Sandringham where we will solicit members of the public to fill our boots to help buy wellies for the lifeboat crews.  Then on to Sunny Hunny, finishing at the Lifeboat Station at Old Hunstanton.  Saturday May 2nd Lynnsport 10.am.

On Bank Holiday Monday 4th May there’ll be a train assist ride (0830 train from Lynn station) to join the Cambridge Cycling Campaign Annual Reach Fair ride. About twelve miles from The Guildhall to Reach, arriving in time for the opening ceremony.  We’ll keep our options open for the return route, depending on weather on the day and the ambitions of our Bugsters.

Cycle Parking News: Saturday Market Place cycle park has reopened.

Vancouver(Sainsbury's) multi-storey should open soon. 40 more spaces in St James (Swimming Pool) multi-storey by June.  Also, have you seen cycle parking that's not on our maps?  Let us know!

Harding's Way News: The plan to "improve" London Road's Air Quality by moving more motor vehicles to Harding's Way (NCN1) was on BBC Radio Norfolk's Breakfast Show on Wed 1 April but sadly it was no fool's joke.

If you have any evidence about Harding's Way or about the effects of moving cars to it, please share it with us.

Sandringham Railway Path News: The plan to build a road over the drain alongside the cycleway will be re-examined on Friday 10 April because of a procedural error. We have not yet been told the details of any cycleway disruption, but there is a rising main within the cycleway so we expect a diversion onto Front Way at some point. If you'd like to be kept informed, please register on our website for space4cycling and say so in the "improvements" box.

A reminder that we can promote the “space4cycling” aims and bring pressure to bear on election candidates in the May elections by registering with http://www.klwnbug.co.uk/space4cycling/   Please get signed up.
