Cycling is getting a second year of extra funding!
After last year's Active Travel Fund paid for an upgrade at the crossing near
KES and removal of the stupid gate and slalom, this year Norfolk and
Lincolnshire have each been given over £300,000 from a Capability Fund, while
Cambridgeshire's
allocation was withheld until they promised not to rip cycle lanes out prematurely
again (like they did in Peterborough). While that's useful to keep things
ticking over, we're hoping that the £25m Lynn Town Deal will deliver the 8 new
and upgraded cycle route sections mentioned in it, and that future Active
Travel Fund rounds will bring millions not thousands across the fens.
Are you in Cambridgeshire? Do you have time to tell
politicians what we need to increase cycling? Please email bug@klwnbug.co.uk to volunteer for the
Cambridgeshire Active Travel Forum. We'll support you with advice and documents
as much as we can. Things like the Fenland Cycling etc
Improvement Strategy, Wisbech Access Strategy and March Area Transport Strategy
are moving forward and we want cycling voices to be heard.
eCargo Bike Grants are available again. If you know
a business that could be helped by getting an electric cargo bike, please ask
them to get more information from Energy Saving Trust at https://energysavingtrust.org.uk/grants-and-loans/ecargo-bike-fund/
Do you know someone who could be a School Streets
Officer? Norfolk County Council are working in partnership with Sustrans to
deliver a School Streets pilot over the next 12 months and the officer role is
currently being recruited. Please share https://www.sustrans.org.uk/job-vacancies/schools-streets-officer/
Keep an eye on www.klwnbug.co.uk for details of consultations
and social meetings each month.
Vicky’s Pedal and Chat rides every Tuesday evening Lynnsport 6.30pm.
Online chat and plan on second Thursday of the month.
